Maria Stromvik is an amateur photographer who started photographing in the summer of 2009. She grew up by the seaside in southern Sweden, and the sea - as well as water in other forms - is a recurrent theme in many of her photographs.
The choice of working in black and white was never really a choice. Monochrome felt like the only natural way to portray an almost abstract, almost surreal, reality in which light and lines - or other simple shapes - become the sole components. She is trying to create black and white photographs that leave ample room for the imagination, and a considerable amount of space for the viewer to fill with his or her own interpretations.
Maria was born in 1968 in Stockholm, and now lives in Lund, Sweden.
